Traditional Marketing Vs. Direct Marketing

Marketing is so important that no business venture can survive without it. But come to think of it, what is marketing? Marketing refers to those activities carried out by a business venture to promote their product or services traditionally or otherwise. Any marketing endeavor aims to create awareness and get potential customers to choose a company’s product or service over its competitors. Over the years, marketing has evolved from what it used to be. When once there were only print media houses to promote a brand’s product or services, the advent of television and the internet changed the game. Now brands have a wide variety of marketing methods to choose from.

As experts in the field, we at Ascension Management, Inc. want to help you figure out what marketing strategy works best for you and your business. This is why we have written down information regarding two different styles of marketing, namely traditional and direct.

A. Traditional marketing (Digital marketing)
In practice, digital marketing typically refers to marketing campaigns on a computer, phone, tablet, or other devices. It can take many forms, including online video, display ads, search engine marketing, paid social ads, and social media posts. Digital marketing is often compared to traditional marketing, such as magazine ads, billboards, and direct mail. Everyone encounters some sort of traditional marketing in their everyday lives, whether it’s getting your daily newspaper or coming across a catchy commercial. However, traditional marketing can be costly as commercials and ads add up quickly. Additionally, a lot of people don’t pay attention to commercials and ads anymore. Usually, when people get paper mail or emails, they’ll trash them. When it comes to actual tv commercials, most people change the channel, so these forms can only be so effective now.

B. Direct marketing
Direct marketing is a type of marketing where companies directly interact with customers through various mediums, including text messaging, promotional letters, newspapers, magazine advertisements, etc. Even with the rising acceptance of digital marketing, direct marketing remains relevant. Direct marketing is a great method to get the background and facts needed to see what is and isn’t working. It is an easy way to get live feedback so that you can fix what needs to be fixed and keep doing what’s working. Direct marketing helps build and make great relationships. Building great relationships with the customers is very important so that you can ensure they are happy with their products/service. However, sometimes direct marketing can be a little more time-consuming. It obviously takes more time to meet with customers and have an actual meeting/conversation with them.

Takeaway
Both of these methods have positives and negatives associated, which is why the strongest marketing campaigns utilize methods from both. Online shops like Etsy or places where you can only shop online probably benefit more from the traditional styles. Direct marketing is better when you have to have an actual product or service, especially if you don’t know much about the products or services, as it’s easier to get the information.
